Palindromes are words or phrases that end as they start.
A semordnilap, 'palindromes' written backwards, means an entire word that reads as a different word when read backwards.
Palindrome examples
- Racecar
- Abba
- Was it Eliot's toilet I saw?
I learned about palindromes from my parents when I was very young as my date of birth is a palindrome.
Word is that T. S. Eliot added the S. in his author name because he wanted to avoid people making the connection with Toilet (T. Eliot backwards).
Semordnilap examples
- Stressed <--> Dessert
- Lager <--> Regal
- Denim <--> Mined
- Palindromes <--> Semordnilap (okay, that's a little circular)
